LIQUID EXCHANGE

2024 - art de l'installation - argile, plantes, verre et eau.

NATURE
and SYSTEMS

The installation creates a speculative relationship: a central plant stoma containing a water reservoir surrounded by roots and vegetation. This art installation offers us a tangible model for examining the fundamental biological processes that occur at the interface between plants and their surrounding environment.

First, we direct our attention to the process of evapotranspiration, a critical phenomenon in the terrestrial hydrological cycle. Through the opening and closing of stomata, plants regulate the loss of water to the atmosphere. This action is essential for controlling leaf temperature and maintaining the pressure gradient that facilitates water absorption by the roots.

Furthermore, stomata play a crucial role in gas exchange, allowing the entry of carbon dioxide necessary for photosynthesis and the resulting release of oxygen. This functional duality highlights the evolutionary adaptation of plants to improve efficiency in resource acquisition and energy production.

The presence of the water reservoir in the center of the stoma exemplifies the importance of plant-soil interaction in regulating water status. The water contained in this reservoir is a vital source for transpiration, generating a water potential gradient that drives the absorption of water and nutrients from the soil by the roots, thus completing the hydrological cycle.

"Liquid Exchange" is a work that instigates reflection on the complexity and interconnection of biological processes underlying the survival and biodiversity of plants in their natural habitats.

Neuro-Stomata Project/ Botanical Synapses

2022-2024 - How can microstructures of plants
and brain cells can be related? What would botanical synapses look like in
the field of imagination? First drafts of imaginary city artwork that integrates nature and microbiology in large urban centers. The immersive project will be modeled in Sketchup 3D.
